With no let-up in heavy rains, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the Super Thermal Power Station at Kaniha in Orissa's Angul district today was cancelled.

Official sources, however, said that the Prime Minister would dedicate the 3000 mw plant through a video conference from Bhubaneswar which would be shown live over Doordarshan from 4:15 pm.

Singh was to dedicate the power plant, the biggest generating station under the NTPC, to the nation at a function in Bhubaneswar.

The Prime Minister's programme had been cancelled as the helicopters could not take off in blinding rain due to poor visibility, the sources said.

Heavy rains also continued unabated in Kaniha leading to the cancellation of the visit, reports said.
