"The Prime Minister has sent a letter to the Israeli government expressing concern at the health of Prime Minister Sharon and expressed hope that he will be restored to good health", Sanjay Baru, media advisor to Manmohan Singh said.

Singh conveyed the best wishes of the Indian people for Sharon's speedy recovery, he said.

Sharon was in "grave" but stable condition after undergoing a seven-hour emergency surgery to stop "massive, widespread" bleeding in his brain.
