THE MUCH-NEEDED respite for the Bajpai family came in the form of assurance of all assistance from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Thursday.

It was only after the interference of Congress President Sonia Gandhi that the PMO went into action mode and sent a letter to Suresh Bajpai, directing him to furnish all details within 90 days relating to his son’s ailment. The letter also assured Bajpai that all expenses likely to be entailed on his son’s treatment would be borne by the PMO.
To recall, Suresh Bajpayi of Ranjeetpurwa, Dhankutti, had written a letter to President APJ Abdul Kalam on November 24, seeking permission for mercy killing of his ailing son Praveen who is down with a malady that entails Rs 20 lakh for treatment. He had also sent a copy of the letter to the PMO and had earlier visited Sonia Gandhi with his friends seeking help in this regard.
The letter also directed Bajpai to submit the latest medical certificate of his son providing all details about the aliment and the expenditure to be incurred on the treatment. The letter directed Bajpai to submit an income certificate.
