Police on Thursday fired in the air to quell two groups of Congress and JD-S activists who staged a dharna in front of a polling station at Kariganur village here where repolling was on.
No casualty was reported in the incident, police said.
Trouble broke out after Congress supporters resorted to dharna to protest the denial of entry to party candidate Vadnal Rajanna at a polling booth by the police.
JD-S workers also staged a dharna protesting the behaviour of Congress activists, leading to tension in the area.
When caning and bursting of teargas shells proved ineffective, police fired in the air to disperse the groups.
There was no disruption to polling process in two polling stations and police have reinforced picketing in the village.
Repolling was on in 71 polling stations coming under 11 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state that witnessed electoral irregularities during the first phase of polling on April 20.
