Police smell foul play in caterer kidnap case

Mystery shrouds the "abduction" of a caterer, Ravi Sharma, who went missing on March 28 before resurfacing under a tree in Ballabgarh on Tuesday.
The police, who had registered a case on the basis of a complaint by Sharma's family members, have not been able to piece together the sequence of events despite questioning the alleged victim for two days.
The police had registered a case of kidnapping on March 30 where the kin of Sharma had pointed fingers at three persons - a financer and his two brothers.
However, on April 2, the villagers of Budena in Ballabgarh found a man lying under a tree and informed the police. The police later identified him as Ravi Sharma.
"During the course of interrogation, Ravi Sharma has claimed that he had been kidnapped and his legs and arms tied," a police officer investigating the case said. He said they had been questioning Sharma for the last two days but had not made much progress. "He just says that he was kidnapped but does not give us any details," the police officer said.
Sharma, who originally hails from Dayalpur in Faridabad, is a resident of Chawla colony in Ballabgarh. His family claim that he had lent about Rs. 35 lakh to one Dharampal, a financer of NH3 area some time back.
On last Thursday, the family alleged that Dharampal called Sharma to his home on the pretext of returning the money. However, they became suspicious when Sharma failed to return. The two others mentioned in the FIR are Bijender and Bhura.
