Poll fever grips varsity

THE NEW academic session in the university has begun on a rather violent note. Recently the campus witnessed incidents of eve teasing and misbehaviour with a senior professor. Now election fever has gripped the university, though no election date has been declared as yet. If this is an indication, it is certain that it would be tough for the university and degree college authorities to restrain the student leaders .

The order of chief proctor Prof Rajendra Prasad to remove posters, hoardings and banners from the university gate and walls failed to have any impact on the student leaders. What is more, campaigning for the union elections has started much before the academic session.

The campus and the buildings around the university have been flooded with banners and posters by the candidates likely to contest the elections. Though the chief proctor convened a meeting on Wednesday and directed the student leaders to remove their banners and posters within 24 hours, the warning failed to have any impact.

Chief proctor Prof Rajendra Prasad said that he would ask the district officials and municipal corporation to remove the hoardings and banners of students union leaders as it was a violation of the guidelines issued by the High Court for students’ union elections.

According to the Judgment of the High Court, Allahabad Writ Petition number 3748 (MB) of 1998, the court has formulated some guidelines which must be followed and adhered to by every candidate and these shall be enforced and implemented by the university administration and Nagar Palika authorities.

The guidelines in the regards are that there will be complete ban on wall writing within and outside the campus by candidates or their supporters.

There shall be no capturing of hoardings put up by advertising agencies with the permission of the Nagar Palika authorities, deface and paint them to solicit votes but students leader have captured most of the hoardings in the city causing huge loss to the advertisement agencies.
