With their buses requisitioned for three-day Panchayat election duty since Sunday, most schools in Gurgaon announced a holiday on Tuesday.
Bluebells, Delhi Public School, Amity and Salwan were some schools that will remain shut.
“What does a private school, which is not financially aided by the government, have to do with Panchayat, assembly and parliamentary elections, census or polio campaigns for which its buses are demanded?” the director of a school asked.
In April, studies were affected as the district administration had deployed teachers on census duty.
“We had no option but to close on Monday and Tuesday as we do not have enough buses to ferry students and staff,” said Ratna Pandit, principal of DPS, Maruti Kunj.
Gurgaon deputy commissioner R.K. Kataria said his department had not asked school authorities to provide the buses but to the private contractors. “I’m not sure about the number of buses we have inducted, but we have asked private contractors to provide them,” he said.
