Notably, strong winds snapped power supply lines at several places and trees were either broken or uprooted in many localities on Monday evening.

Similarly, sudden showers accompanied with strong wind lashed the city for more than an hour on Tuesday, bringing relief to the residents reeling under the scorching heat since the summer began.

Localities connected with Teliarganj substation had no power supply till Wednesday afternoon.

As a result, the citizens were a harried lot, trying to fetch drinking water from handpumps or other sources.

Residents even staged a chakka jam on the main road on Tuesday evening. They alleged that the UPPCL authorities neglected the area in restoring the power supply.

In some part of the city like Civil Lines, Kalandipuram, Shobatiabagh, Tagore Town etc, the power supply was normalised late on Tuesday night but some other areas including Ashok Nagar remained powerless the whole night.

However, the Jal Sansthan made arrangement of water tankers in different localities but failed to fulfill the required demand of the city.

An official of the UPPCL said the power supply was being restored by making all possible efforts in the city.
