The news 38 per cent Indians are poor: report (August 20) shows India in a bad light. It’s a national shame that even after six decades of independence, a substantial chunk of our population lacks access to even basic amenities like food, clothes and shelter. If 60 years haven’t been able to improve conditions, what's the assurance that these numbers won’t soar in the future? I feel it also raises serious doubts over the efficiency of the Planning Commission.
