THE CITY’S water supply remained disrupted for about nine hours following the power cut for five hours at Kolar Filtration Plant from 3 am today. As a consequence, several localities went without water. Kolar Supply system caters the need of more than 60 per cent of population.

This has been the first major power cut at Kolar Filtration Plant during the past six months. There are two power connections at Kolar Filtration Plant – one from Mandideep feeder and second from MANIT feeder. Some years back, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation had installed the changeover switch. The officials could change the power connection in case of any fault in power supply.

According to information received from Kolar control room, there was power fault in both these lines today. After the disruption in power supply in the line of Mandideep feeder, the BMC officials changed the connection to MANIT feeder. But this feeder was also not working.

Power supply could be restored at 8 am. Therefore, the pumping from first raw water pump started from 8.05 am. The second raw water pump was started at 8.10 am while the third and final pump could be started at 9.55 am.

The pumping from clear water pumps was started from 9.25 am. Similarly, second and third clear water pumps were respectively started at 10.5 am and 12.5 pm. Finally, the water supply to the City could be restored at about 2 pm.

According to information, there was no water supply today in the areas including Char Imli, Shakti Nagar, Saket Nagar, Hoshangabad Road and Shahpura. Besides, there was low pressure water supply in the areas including Nehru Nagar, Kotra Sultanabad, Vaishali, Shahpura, Trilanga, Gulmohar, Arera Colony, 1100 Quarters, Govindpura, Indrapuri, Sonagiri, Chandbarh, PGBT, Bal Vihar, Ginnauri, Moti Masjid, Jawahar Chowk, Sough TT Nagar and Shastri Nagar.

Executive Engineer, Kolar, Sanjay Andhwan was not available for comments despite repeated attempts to contact him.
