THE STATE Government on Sunday claimed to have achieved an increase of 1898.7 MW in power generation from various sources during the past year.
The increase has been attributed to 1000 MW Indira Sagar Project, 826.5 MW from the Sardar Sarovar Hydroelectric Power Project, 40 MW from Madhikheda Hydroelectric Project, 20 MW from Bansagar (Jhinna) project, 10 MW from Bargi Project and 2.2 MW from the privately operated Birsingh project.
Besides, a further increase of up to 520 MW was expected by 2007 taking the total power generation to 2418.7 MW, an official release said.
The additional increase was expected through 500 MW from the fifth unit of Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power plant at Birsinghpur, and 20 MW from the third unit of Madhikheda project. Under the efforts carried out to raise power generation, the network of high-tension wires has been increased to 2651 in the past three years.
