The entire city was kept free from night rostering on Thursday, but several areas of the city faced power cut for almost the entire night due to local faults at the level of substations.
While a large part of the area falling under Phoolbagh substation went without power supply for last 48 hours. Power supply of another section of the area under Phoolbagh substation was snapped on Wednesday and could not be restored even by Friday evening.
The crisis occurred due to an under ground cable fault in the area. The fault could only be located by Thursday night and the work to repair the snag began on Friday morning.
A senior official of Kesco said that normal power supply to all the affected areas would be restored by late in the night on Friday.
“There is a possibility that power supply will be restored only on Saturday morning. However, all efforts are being made to ensure that power supply to all affected areas is restored by Friday night itself,” said the official.
Apart from this several areas faced power crisis due to transformer failures.
About half a dozen areas reported transformer failures including Beconganj, Talaq Mahal, Kakadeo, Kalyanpur, Dadamai and Babupurwa.
The entire Chamanganj faced power crisis due to tripping and failure of substation’s relay. All these affected areas are still reeling under power crisis, as transformers could not be replaced.
A senior Kesco official said the power crisis due to local faults had exposed the inefficiency of both private and Kesco’s own gangs.
“As complaints are not being taken seriously, several areas of the city are facing power crisis including night rostering,” said the official.
General Manager of Kesco MP Tripathi said, “Efforts are being made to restore power supply to all affected areas. It will also be ensured that all complaints are taken seriously,” said Tripathi.
