Two powerful bombs, allegedly planted by insurgents to attack security personnel, were found in Imphal West district of Manipur, police said on Sunday.
Sources said a trained-dog of Assam Rifles personnel of 27th battalion detected a powerful bomb, weighing more than two kg and planted at the end of a roadside culvert, while the para military forces were patrolling Wabgai Leirak Achouba area, about 27 km south-east of Imphal on Saturday.
The bomb was later exploded at a nearby paddy field by the experts, sources said adding that remote-controlled-device attached bomb was meant to attack the para-military forces who frequently patrolled the insurgents-affected area.
In another incident, police forces detected another powerful bomb, planted at a roadside area, at Koirengei, about 17 km north of here yesterday, sources said adding that it was later defused by the bomb experts.
Official sources said insurgents had planted at least seven bombs at the roadsides at different places to attack security personnel this month, adding that police outposts have already been alerted to step up patrolling and checking of passers-by within their jurisdictions either to prevent attack on security personnel by exploding bombs or to detect movement of the insurgents in the state particularly in valley.
