A powerful grenade swas found near a pond in Imphal West district of Manipur, official sources said on Thursday.

The grenade was found at Kongjembam Leikai area when some children were going to the pond for swimming on Wednesday.

Bomb experts of Manipur police department later defused it, sources said adding that some unknown militants may have kept it to attack police or security personnel passing through the area.

Local residents appealed to the militants not to launch any attack at the residential area, sources said.
