'Pravasi Bharatiya Divas meet to held in Chennai from Jan8'

Over 1500 delegates from 40 countries will attend the seventh edition of the 'Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD)' to be held in Chennai from January 8, Union Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said.
The convention, being organised by his Ministry, would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said.
The main theme of the two-day convention would be Engaging the Diaspora: The Way Forward, he said.
The Convention will also focus on various sessions like "India as an Emerging Power-The Diaspora Factor", Reflections on Current Economic Crisis-Diaspora Concerns, Diaspora Interactions with the States,Indian Diaspora: Preservation of Language and culture.
An art exhibition on areas like Technology, Financial Services, Fashion, Handicrafts, Consumer Goods would also be conducted, Ravi told reporters after meeting Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here.
He said over 50 exhibitors including several State governments would be showcasing the products, particularly in technological and cultural landscape, at the same venue.
On Chennai being chosen as the venue, he said Karunanidhi expressed keen interest on conducting the event as it will encourage more economic development and will also act as a platform to interact with other Chief Ministers.
Besides Karunanidhi, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar would address the conference.
