After a spate of hoax e-mails and anonymous telephone calls about terrorist attacks in the wake of the July 11 Mumbai train blasts, President APJ Abdul Kalam has now received a "threatening mail", an official source said on Thursday.

"The e-mail threatened the President that he would be eliminated in a few days. It was a one line message," the source said.

The e-mail, sent from a Yahoo address has been passed on to security agencies who have launched a probe to trace its sender.

On many occasions, Kalam himself accesses his mail, while otherwise the press office or his secretary sees them.

"We are trying to establish the origin of the mail. We are on the case," said an Intelligence official.
