Prevent Sonia from becoming PM: Uma Bharti
Madhya Pradesh CM Uma Bharti made an "appeal" to all political parties as well as Cong members to prevent Sonia Gandhi from becoming the PM.
Despite a stunning verdict that put Congress in power and routed BJP, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti today made an "appeal" to all political parties as well as Congress members to prevent Sonia Gandhi from becoming the Prime Minister.
"I make an appeal to all parties to create whatever hurdles they can to prevent Sonia from becoming the Prime Minister," Bharti said at a press conference here this evening.
The BJP leader said the appeal was aimed at Congress leaders also, claiming that the mandate the party has got was not for Gandhi's leadership as she was never projected by her party as the prime ministerial candidate in the run-up to the elections.
"Even her victory in Rae Bareli should be attributed to the traditional deference of the people of the constituency towards the Nehru-Gandhi family," Bharti said, adding a referendum can be held to prove whether the mandate was for her prime ministership or not.
"It will indeed be sad if a foreigner becomes our prime minister. There is a big difference between becoming an Indian citizen and being an Indian," she said.
Bharti, who flew in this morning, said she has met her "brother" Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh at Uttar Ptadesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence to discuss the post-election scenario, which included the possibility of Gandhi becoming the Prime Minister.
She clarified that she did not meet any other political leader today.
