Prisoner commits suicide in district jail

A 65-year-old prisoner lodged in the district jail Lucknow allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of the toilet inside the barrack, police sources said today.

Ram Das, who was lodged in jail for attacking neighbours in Sarojini Nagar eight months ago committed suicide on Sunday.

The police said that Das was under depression due to prolonged illness and the murder case against him.

The body of Das was recovered during routine inspection by jail staff, they said.
