Generations of people in this Lok Sabha constituency have seen Priyanka Gandhi grow from a little girl, when she used to accompany her father, into a charismatic leader who is now canvassing for her brother.
But she never forgets to invoke her father's name.
"Serving you is the religion of Rahul. By serving you we will feel that he is serving our father (Rajiv Gandhi)," she told an election rally, adding, "my family will always remain indebted to you."
Rajiv Gandhi was elected to Lok Sabha thrice in a row from Amethi since 1984. His widow Sonia Gandhi represented the seat in 1999. Rahul himself was elected from Amethi in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
"Earlier, I used to come along with my father Rajivji here," she said and asked if she could hope the people of Amethi would ensure Rahul's victory when the constituency goes to poll on April 23.
The villagers shouted in unison: "With a margin of five lakh votes."
The Amethi constituency has over 14 lakh voters.
Priyanka said there are only few leaders like him who are only concerned for the people and not for themselves.
"Your MP looks after your interest and not his own. Such leaders are very few in the country," Priyanka said and repeated, "Rahul is a leader who works hard for you".
Expressing her gratitude to the people for their love and affection for her family members, she said, "I have come not to seek votes but to demand more love."
She appealed to women voters here to turn up in large number to vote on April 23 when Amethi goes to polls.
Expressing her gratitude to the people for their love and affection for her family members, she said in Sarwawan "I have come not to seek votes but to demand more love."
Gandhi also mentioned the Central government schemes like NREGA and farmers loan waiver, saying 90,000 farmers of Amethi got benefited from the loan waver scheme. She said that for the first time, the right to employment was given to people.
At Tikri, she enquired with village women about the self-help groups and whether they benefited from them.
Holding an interactive with villagers in Tikri, she enquired whether her father Rajiv Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi had come there. The villagers responded in affirmative.
One of the village women said "Rajivji had come here and had meal with us."
Amethi Congress MLA Amita Singh (Modi) also accompanied Priyanka.
