Addressing the students, Yadav said that the pro-reservationists could go to the extreme for 27 per cent reservation in higher education and defend the HRD Minister Arjun Singh from the feudualists opposing reservation.

Dr Nirbhay Singh Patel said that the students were prepared to fight for such an important issue and to weed out problems in implementation of reservation.

Ripusoodan Yadav urged the students to fight on their own for reservation.

Surendra Chaudhari, Pravesh Singh Yadav, Dr Ramesh Prakash Verma, Mukund Lal Maurya and others appealed to the students to support reservation. Munna Singh informed the students about the proceedings and said that the students would leave for Delhi on May 21. He said that roadside meetings would be held on Sunday at Daraganj, on Monday at Allapur and on Tuesday at Govindpur.

The students urged the HRD Minister to clarify the reservation policy and to adopt decentralisation policies for providing benefits to more students in higher education.

Meanwhile, anti-reservationists expressed their determination to oppose reservation in a meeting presided over by student leader Abhishek Shukla.

Addressing the students, Shukla said that reservation would block the entry of meritorious students to higher education and the students would not let this happen. The student leaders also carried out contact programmes in several hostels and delegacies to apprise the students of the adverse effect of reservation.

Pradeep Narayan Dwivedi said that the students would not allow reservation if the criteria of reservation was not revised. Reservation should be based on the economic status of the candidate. Sunil Dwivedi said reservation would lower the demand of Indians in foreign countries and hamper progress.
