As Salman Khan spends a second night in jail following his conviction in the Chinkara poaching case, the film industry waits desperately for the actor’s bail hearing on Thursday.

Reason: Nearly half a dozen films are under production and more than Rs 180 crore are at stake on him.

Ravi Chopra, who has directed Salman in Baghban (a big hit), is a worried man. Ever since he announced Babul, something or the other has plagued his new project. First, it was Amitabh Bachchan, who had to be operated upon, and now it’s Salman’s jail sentence.

However, he is still optimistic about Salman’s release at the earliest. Ravi insists: "The celebrity tag has landed him in trouble. Look at the murderer of Jessica Lall, that man is roaming free. Is this justice? He is a nice boy and has been made a scapegoat by law."

Salman khan and Preity Zinta in a publicity still for Shirish Kunder’s Janeman. The film is expected to cost around Rs 30 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, "The decision of the court has to be respected because law is above everyone. The decision may have come as a surprise to one and all, but then it shows our law is the same for a celebrity and a common man. He will surely come out. Whenever people have thought it as the end of Salman, he has bounced back by giving hits. This is indeed a rare phenomena."

Nice Guy
In fact many in the industry claim that the actor ‘has a heart of gold’, though the his niceties are never seen in the media.

Rati Agnihotri had once said, "While everyone in Bollywood love to be splashed for their social work, Salman on the contrary have always kept his social service secret. Because he doesn’t want his good deeds to get affected by being splashed in media."

Shirish Kunder’s Janeman - Rs 30 crore (approx)

Ravi Chopra’s Babul (Rs 25 – 30 crore)

Marigold (Rs 30 – 35 crore)

Partner (Rs 30 crores)

Salaam-e-Ishq (Rs 35 crore)

God Tussi Great Ho (Rs 30 crore)

Saawariya, Amar Akbar Anthony & London Dreams (combined cost Rs 60-80 crore)

Having being one among the popular Khans, Salman has given more hits and still has a huge fan following all across the country and strata. Among the industry folks, he is one of the most loved persons because many times he has gone out of his ways to help various producers and directors.

BO Charisma
Taran Adarsh discloses, "Salman is not only popular but also loved and respected for his unconditional support whenever his producers have suffered. It is but natural that the whole of Bollywood is in full support for him and his family."

"Even though, most of the producers of his under production films are in loss because of him being sentenced, still they know this is one actor who would bail them out when time comes. This attitude of people in Bollywood speaks volume of his character."

The point at this juncture is will the actor be able to bail everyone out of the dire straits that he is undergoing currently? "Definitely!" Asserts Taran Adarsh, who continues, "Salman Khan is one of the most bankable heroes at the box office. The undying support that he is getting from the industry says a lot about his charisma."

Salman may escape the sentence but there is one more severe offence that he has committed when he ran with his car over the bakery workers, killing one. Will this event in his life haunt him like the TADA sentence has haunted Sanjay Dutt?

Well, for the time being, one will have to wait & watch, how his lawyers will bail him out by challenging the Jodhpur court in the higher court! Even though Bollywood is shocked with him in jail, still the parties in Mumbai are on in full steam. As they say, Bollywood just rocks! So what if Salman Khan is in jail?
