Claiming the situation was under control in the district, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ishwar Singh told PTI that the protestors were stopped from proceeding towards the Dera under the Mullanpur police station.

However, the Sikhs held the protest demonstration some distance away from the Dera for about half-an-hour. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the local Naib Tehsildar demanding the arrest of Sacha chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh.

Sikhs across Punjab have been protesting against the Dera chief for allegedly hurting their sentiments by wearing a dress similar to the one worn by 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.
