A strong posse of para-military forces of about 150 members engaged in the exchange of fire with the naxals, that lasted for more than an hour.
About thirty armed naxals of suspected PWG Guerilla Army (PGA) made an abortive bid to storm the station, which was protected by solar fencing, and hurled grenades at the station, they said.
The police station is hardly two km away from the spot where two constables were killed in a land mine blast on April 10.
The Bandlamottu police station, situated in thick forest area and a naxal stronghold, had been attacked by ultras earlier. Consequently the police station was shifted to nearby Vinukonda town recently and after fortifing it was shifted back to Bandlamottu.
