The low-profile ceremony at Blue Sea Hotel at Mumbai's Worli sea face saw high-profile guests from politics and business, indicating that Rahul was still in the good books of the people who knew his father.
The 500-plus chosen guests included industrialists Anil Ambani and Rahul Bajaj, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray and actor-MP Hema Malini. Pravin Mahajan's family stayed away.
The wedding ceremony, which began at 11.31 a.m., was performed in traditional Maharashtrian way as a huge portrait of Pramod loomed in the wedding hall. Rahul's aunt Pradnya and uncle and BJP leader Gopinath Munde performed the rituals.
If the food was mainly Maharashtrian, the dresses were designer, fashioned for the bride and the groom by friend Hemant Trivedi.
The newlyweds will fly to Seychelles for the honeymoon. On Monday, a Delhi court had allowed Rahul, who is facing prosecution in a drug-abuse case, to travel for a few days.
