Qureshi issue: Court seeks police report

Joint secretary of the Advocates’ Association Vishram Singh Yadav had petitioned the court for filing a criminal case against the minister for his announcement to reward anyone who killed the Danish cartoonist with Rs 51 crore.

The petition stated as Yaqoob held public office, his statement to reward the killer of the cartoonist had created fear among countrymen.

The petitioner stated that his comments had led to protests all over the country and shops were damaged leading to financial loss to the owners. Therefore, he pleaded that a criminal case be registered against the minister.

Meantime, national convenor of the Bajrang Dal Prakash Sharma also filed a similar petition with the ACMM (I) and the magistrate asked the Kotwali police to submit their findings by February 24.

Taking to HT Sharma said he made efforts to lodge an FIR with the Kotwali police on February 20, but no action was taken on his application. Sharma said all concerned officials had been informed police inaction in the case.

Sharma said Bajrang Dal would start a mass movement against the minister for his statement.
