It does not take much imagination to figure out why Rahul Dravid is called 'The Wall'. There was little doubt as to his calibre from the moment he stepped into the international scene.

A solid and correct batsman, Dravid is the best man to have around when a little bit of calm is required at the crease. He has earned the respect of bowlers all over the world, and some even rate him over Tendulkar.

Apart from his batting skills, he has become a regular wicket-keeper in the shorter version of the game, however, has not quite been up to the mark.

Owing to his efficiency in cricket, Dravid was awarded the Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2000. He was also named Player and Test Player of the Year at the 2004 ICC Awards.

Strengths: Ability to stay at the crease for long stretches, especially in tough times; good technique; good temperament

Weaknesses: Wicketkeeping suspect; not too comfortable scoring quick runs; apt to get rattled when out of form.

What others say: "He is hard working and his game comes from thought and analysis,” former Somerset cricket county captain, cricket commentator and writer Peter Roebuck said.
