The central leadership of the Congress has asked its state unit to stay mum on the revocation of AFSPA and the rotation of the CM’s post.

Lately, the state Congress, which had been demanding that the CM’s post be rotated, had been critical of Omar Abdullah’s handling of the AFSPA issue.

But late last week, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi conveyed that talk of rotation be stopped, a senior Congress leader told HT. “All party leaders have been asked to stop issuing statements on the subjects.”

On AFSPA, they have been told that politics should not be injected into security issues.

State party chief Saif-ud-Din Soz, who had accused Abdullah of not consulting the Congress on AFSPA, has made a U-turn.

“The principle of consultation on AFSPA has been accepted...there should be no controversy on its revocation,” he said on Friday. “It was a temporary measure...now it can be repealed through consensus, among, at least, the main stakeholders.”
