Rain gives respite to Bihar

Early morning rains today provided the much-needed respite to citizens of the state capital and other areas of north and central Bihar from the scorching heat by bringing down the temperature that had crossed over 42 degrees in several parts over the the past fortnight.

Early morning rains to Thursday provided the much-needed respite to citizens of the state capital and other areas of north and central Bihar from the scorching heat by bringing down the temperature that had crossed over 42 degrees in several parts over the the past fortnight.

According to the met office, Patna received 23.2 mm rain while Purnea registered 23.8 mm, Gaya (1.2 mm) and Muzaffarpur (4.4 mm) rains.

The temperature fell down by 5 to 7 degreee celsius on an average die to the rains, met office said.

Patna registered a maximum temperature of 35.6 and a minimum of 21.0 degree celsius today.

But the hailstorm and rain wrought havoc disrupting power and water supply in Patna with uprooted trees falling on the electric wires at many places. Train services on Patna-Mugalsarai section was disrupted for several hours because of trees blocking the tracks.

There was, however, no report of any casualty from any part of the state.

There was no electricity in major parts of the state capital almost for nine-ten hours putting the residents to great hardship as there was no supply of water too.

Sources at Danapur rail division said fallen trees blocked the tracks at Sachivalaya halt, Dildarnagar and Bhadaura leading to disruption of train services for a few hours on the Patna-Mughalsari section of the East Central Railway.

Many long-distance trains like 4005 UP Brahmaputra Mail and 2024 Shatabddi Exp were cancelled today because of delayed running of the DN trains, railway sources said adding timing of 2391 UP Magadh Exp, 2142 Lokmanya Tilak Exp and 6596 Sanghmitr Exp were changed because of the late arrival of DN trains.
