THE MONTH of Sawan began with heavy showers lashing the city on Wednesday. Kanwariyas started thronging the holy city from distant places to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva at different temples including Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Kedareshwar Mahadeo, Tilbhandeshwar Mahadeo, Markandey Temple, Shool Tankeshwar Temple, etc. Kanwarias and devotees could be spotted moving on roads in groups raising slogans like ?Har Har Mahadeo? and ?Bol Bam? etc.

Administration has also ensured special arrangements for the entrance of Kanwariyas (devotees of Lord Vishwanath who came on foot from distant places) in temple.
The famous Sawan Mela also started from today. Swings and slides, makeshift shops of sweet, toys, handicraft items were also set up in Durgakund area.
The management of Tulsi Manas Mandir Temple also set up an exhibition on the temple premises. Temple management displayed different types of tableaux in the exhibition depicting different famous stories of the Hindu tradition.
A large number of devotees including rural women and kids visit the Sawan fair from various districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The city witnesses unprecedented rush on Mondays and Tuesdays during the month of Sawan.
Several service camps have also been set up here for the convenience of pilgrims. Sri Baba Kashi Vishwanath Bhakt Sewa Samiti has been organising a month-long service camp for Kanwarias here at Sindhi Dharmshala in Luxa area from Wednesday to August 9.
Fooding, lodging and health assistance have been arranged for 75,000 Kanwarias in the camp. The samiti will organise a grand Jalabhishek on August 9.
Artistes of Kalateet Satsang Mandal (Jehanabad) would present a three-day cultural programme from August 7 to 9.
