Dara Singh Jat, who had several criminal cases pending against him, was killed near Jaipur in October 2006.

Ponnuchamy, who was then a deputy inspector general with the special operations group, is inspector general of police with the crime records bureau.

The CBI had called Ponnuchamy and AK Jain, additional director general of police (Home Guards), to head office in Jaipur for questioning. While Ponnuchamy joined questioning, Jain failed to appear.

“Ponnuchamy will be produced in court on Monday,” a CBI spokesperson told HT. The officer, however, complained of chest pain and was taken to a hospital for a medical examination.

On April 9, the Supreme Court had directed the CBI to begin investigations in the case following a plea by Singh’s wife Sushila Devi.
