Rakesh Dhar joined BSP to save own life!

One often comes across opportunists hopping parties for political gains, but instances when this recourse is taken for saving one's life are probably rare.

When senior BJP leader and former minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi joined BSP at a simple ceremony along with his supporters on Friday here, he too was branded as an opportunist who had changed party for the third time in his political career spanning 25 years. But only a few know that Rakesh Dhar did a volte face this time to save his life allegedly at the hands of mafiosi turned politician Vijay Misra, SP MLA from Bhadohi. It was about a month ago when Vijay had hired shooters to eliminate him. But his life was saved at the eleventh hour by some persons who tipped him about the impending attack on his life, alleged Rakesh Dhar while talking to HT Allahabad Live.

A similar plan had been hatched by the same person earlier but this time too goodness was on his side, he said.

Wary over constant threat to his life he changed the party in the hope of becoming MLA again from Handia, says none other than a senior BJP office bearer wishing anonymity. Rakesh Dhar in the prevailing circumstances had no other option. With BSP willing to give ticket to a Brahmin like him who enjoys considerable support in Handia, Rakesh Dhar would most likely become a minister again in case BSP comes to power in the State following elections, said another BJP leader.

In case he becomes MLA and BSP fails to come to power in the state, then too as an MLA he will be close to the corridors of power and in a position to protect his life, said BJP sources who are not unhappy with what the leader did even when they feel that the party has lost a good leader having popular support.

Vijay Misra's enmity with Rakesh Dhar's family spans more than two decades.

Vijay's brother Lal Saheb had allegedly got Rakesh Dhar's elder brother Dr DD Tripathi murdered in Mirzapur where he was a surgeon in the Civil Hospital in 1982. Sources said, Mirzapur  witnessed three days bandh in support of the doctor. Lal Saheb and some others were named accused. Later they were reportedly acquitted in this case.

Both Rakesh Dhar and Vijay come from villages hardly a kilometre apart in Saidabad under Handia sub division.

Though the exact cause of the bloody rivalry between the two families could not be known but when Rakesh Dhar's  career as a good politician zoomed Misras went on a defensive. On his part Rakesh Dhar never tried to settle scores with blood but Misras allegedly did.

Threat to Rakesh Dhar's life started becoming stronger after he lost the last Assembly election and his party too was pushed to a corner, claim sources.
