Simvastatin is a cholesterol lowering drug.

A district court in the US had yesterday ruled in favour of Ranbaxy that claimed for exclusive rights to sell the generic version of Zocor.

When contacted Ranbaxy spokesperson said, "We are pleased with the ruling... The company will launch the product upon final approval from USFDA".

Merck currently holds the patent for the drug. The patent expires on June 23.
