Rang-Shringar a treat for the eyes

RANG-SHRINGAR, an exhibition of tribal, folk and traditional paintings, was opened at Mahatma Gandhi Art Gallery, North Central Zone Cultural Centre on Friday.The exclusive exhibition was inaugurated by senior director, Doordarshan Allahabad Shyam Vidyarthi. Almost 40 paintings produced during an artists? camp held in December 2005 adorned the walls of the gallery. A wide range of traditional paintings which included Tanjore style, Persian style, Bundi style and Mughal style attracted the attention of the visitors.

Fine paintings based on the rulers of the Mughal period revealed their lavish lifestyle. The artists took pains to reveal the finer details with the use of fine outlines. ‘Worli style’ from Maharshtra was an admirable depiction of the tribal art. Dark brown background highlighted the colour white very well in which most of the paintings had been made. Paintings in Pichhwai style were also appreciated.

A wide range of Sanjhi paintings from Mathura portrayed Lord Krishna and Radha in various moods and postures. These paintings are specially made in the temples of Mathura. The exhibition will remain open for the visitors on April 29 and 30 from 11 am.
