Faced with increasing attack of the opposition parties in the wake of accusations of rape and murder of a class X student, a senior ruling party leader in West Bengal on Friday said such accusations will only bolster the party membership.

Sourav Chakraborty the TMC Jalpaiguri district president on Fridayjoined the league of his party leaders who have made insensitive remarks. Chakraborty claimed that the rape and accusations would always exist. "Rape is a social malady, which will continue happening and so will be accusations. The more the accusations grow, so will grow our party membership," Chakrabarty told media persons.

Chakraborty was reacting on the allegations that the TMC local leaders and supporters were involved in the rape and murder of the class X girl at Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district whose naked body was found from near a railway track on Tuesday morning.

The girl was missing from Monday night when local TMC leaders had called a salashi sabha or kangaroo court to solve a dispute between the victims’ father and his neighbour.

Anukul Burman the father of the victim had filed FIR against 13 persons most of them TMC leaders and supporters.

Himani Burman went missing from Monday night after the meeting. In the meeting the TMC leaders asked Anukul Burman to pay the rent to Anil Burman from whom he had hired a power tiller. When Anukul said that he would not be able to pay the money immediately, he was assaulted and insulted. Himani who had accompanied her father in the meeting protested. Villagers claimed that those present in the meeting instead turned on the girl and demanded she lick spittle off the ground.

She went missing from Monday late night and her naked body was found next morning from near railway track.

The Left Front has sought Governor K.N. Tripathi's intervention. Three people have been arrested in connection with the case.

Chakraborty's comments have been strongly criticized by CPI-M, Congress and the BJP.

Earlier, Trinamool MP Tapas Paul had created a major controversy when he threatened to unleash his boys to rape Marxist women while party MLA from Diamond Harbour Dipak Kumar Halder set off an outrage by saying so long as the earth exists, rape will continue to happen.

The ruling Trinamool Congress is facing increasing hit from opposition parties forcing the state government to send a forensic team to the spot from where the girl’s naked dead body was recovered.

Today a forensic team from North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) visited Dhupguri and collected samples from near the railway line from where the body was recovered. The General Railway police are investigating the matter.

However opposition parties like the CPM, Congress, BJP and SUCI have been claiming that the police and the local administration are trying to hush up the matter.

Pritha Sarkar the district magistrate of Jalpaiguri said on Fridayevening, “The post mortem report said prima-facie there was no sexual assault.” “We should handle the matter clinically,” she told Hindustan times.

However, Jayanta Majumdar the CPI (M) Dhupguri zonal committee secretary told Hindustan Times in the afternoon, “The post mortem report is likely to be changed under the pressure of the administration.”

Talking to Hindustan Times on Friday evening, Chakraborty denied of making such statements. He told Hindustan Times “The more baseless allegations are made against the party, the party would get stronger.”

He also said, “The post mortem report would clear everything.”

Jayanta Majumdar who is also the convenor of Left Front in Dhupguri block said “We had demanded that a central forensic team to visit the spot and the state Governor K N Tripathi's intervention.” “We do not have faith on the state forensic team which had also conducted the post mortem,” said Mazumdar. He also alleged that the Dhupguri municipality chairman and vice chairman went to the victim’s family and offered money to the father. The civic body is controlled by the TMC.

Mazumdar who claimed to have seen the body of the girl said, “The clothes of the Vitim were lying on one side of the railway track and the naked body was found on the other side of the track.”
