"Every year about 50,000 personnel retire from the three wings of the Armed Forces and the number is about 25 lakh at present, who need due care from the society, and the governments,” Vice Admiral Singh said at a press conference here on Saturday.

He said that Indian Armed Forces personnel were best in the world but their small needs were not being attended properly.

“We are taking care of their health related needs and ensure they do not suffer for want for treatment for their different ailments but their other needs require to be taken care of so that they lead a happy life,” Singh said.

He said that the jawans who retire at a young age should also be given priority in other jobs so that they do not remain idle and lead a healthy and happy life.

"These problems are being taken up with the appropriate authorities", he said.

Asked as to which kind of health related problems the Armed Forces personnel were facing while performing thier jobs, Vice Admiral said,’trauma’ was the main problem being faced by them, though other diseases like infection etc., were common.
