Resentment among BJP workers over mayoral candidate

Her ticket was almost confirmed but in a dramatic development on Wednesday the proposed press conference of Anju Chaudhary was postponed as BJP leaders strongly opposed her candidature.

According to report, the district office bearers had proposed a panel of six candidates for the mayor post and Anju Chaudhary was among them. After proposal of Adityanath, all the aspirants collectively opposed to the state party president and appealed him to announce that the candidate for mayor post from the panel sent by the district unit of the party.

Sources claim that all the aspirants for the ticket from BJP mounted pressure on state secretary of the party Dr Ramapati Ram Tripathi, the organising secretary Rajendra and former chief minister Kalyan Singh and demanded that BJP candidate should be from the panel set by the district unit of the party.

According to report, state leadership of BJP had authorised BJP MP Adityanath to select the candidates for mayoral post in Gorakhpur Nagar Nigam with a restriction that the proposed name by him should be from the panel of name sent by the district unit of the party.

The tussle over the ticket might intensify as BJP MP Adityanath was in no mood to back foot on this issue. He had assured Anju Chaudhary to file her nomination paper as his candidate and would extend his support.

Meanwhile, SP candidates for the mayor post Sitaram Jaiswal reached here from Lucknow and SP activists welcomed him at Gorakhpur railway station. Congress had yet not finalised its candidate but a trader leader Jawahar Kasaudhan who has switch over his loyalty from BJP could get the party ticket.

BSP had decided not to contest the municipal corporation election on party symbol, therefore, the aspirant for BSP were in dilemma.
