As per the directives, guesthouse owners have been told to ensure that loud speakers are not used at high volume after 10 pm and roads are not used for car parking.

They should also ensure that marriage parties do not cover the whole road in front of guesthouses to block ordinary traffic.

Besides, guesthouse owners have also been directed to implement all fire safety measures to meet any exigency. They have been warned of serious action in case the directives are found violated during inspection.

Though guesthouse owners have expressed their inability to prevail upon function organizers to ensure implementation of the directives, the district administration’s indifference towards their pleadings has left them agitated.

According to police officials, the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) should not have given permission for opening guesthouses in congested localities or near highways passing through the city.

These houses should have been opened on the outskirts of the city or the permission must have been given conditional on provision of car parking.

It is worth mentioning that many guesthouses are situated near the GT Road and heavy traffic gets stranded due to heavy and irregular car parking
there. Besides, fast traffic on the highway also poses threat of accidents.

Guesthouses located in congested localities attract the wrath of neighbours as they have to pass sleepless nights during the marriage season.
