Talking to Hindustan Times, Sharan said that architects and promoters often ignored safety standards while constructing buildings for petty monetary gains.
"The government should bring legislation in this regard and ensure that builders followed all types of safety measures in construction,” he added.
He suggested that construction principles followed during earlier times, when thick walls were built to give all types of protection, should be reintroduced.
“These days we are constructing one brick thin walls to reduce the cost and get more space, which is not a good practice,’ he said.
The government should review age-old construction codes and create new ones, he said He further added that the degree of sustainability of a building should be properly assessed and public buildings should be constructed at the highest susceptibility rate of attack.
