According to police, the 22-year-old woman shouted for help when the outfit, comprising of members from the Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) thrashed the man.

Advocates and police, however, intervened and rescued him. Station house officer (SHO) of Civil Lines Hanumana Ram said the boy was taken into police custody.

He said, “We will hand over the boy to Bundi Police as an abduction case has been registered against him in Bundi.”

Meanwhile, the bride was handed over to her parents, who reached the spot with the Hindu organisations.

According to police, the woman married Mohammad Hussein (25) of Pishangan block of Ajmer and both of them were residing in a guest house in Dargah area.

She had gone to the court to record a statement that she married him out of her own will.

Meanwhile, members of Shiv Sena and VHP staged a protest and demanded that the boy be booked for “love jihad”.

"Ajmer is becoming a hideout for criminals who are encouraging love jihad," said Munna Lal Sharma, district president of Shiv Sena.

Police said they would record the statement of the girl before making any arrests as she was not a minor.
