Hundreds of activists of the students' wing turned violent when they were stopped by the police when they were marching to the Bihar assembly from R Block here to protest the physical removal of opposition MLAs yesterday during the monsoon session, police said.

The students tried to break open the fence and turned their ire on policemen present there, resulting in lathicharge and use of water cannons by the force.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar and 14 others were injured in the mayhem.

Five RJD activists were later arrested.
