A large number of light and heavy vehicles remained stranded for several hours as the demonstrators refused to lift the road blockade despite repeated requests made by the senior officers of police and district administration.
The agitating people demanded that the senior superintendent of police should come to the spot and assure that the case would be handed over to the Special Task Force as the Shankargarh police had failed to work out the case.
According to reports, Sudhir, four-year-old son of Surendra Dwivedi, and Gudia, five-year-old daughter of Girija Devi, both residents of ward number nine of Shankargarh town were abducted by unknown persons while the children were playing outside their houses on January 23.
When the parents of the children went to police station, the Shankargarh police registered only a case of missing.
However, following the pressure exerted by the locals, they registered a case of kidnapping on January 30.
But, the police failed to trace the kids despite passage of 10 days.
Annoyed over police apathy, a large number of people of the area blocked the Allahabad-Banda Road near Shivrajpur around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Getting information about the road blockade, circle officer of Bara and station officers of Shankargarh, Bara and Kaundhiara police stations rushed to the spot along with force and tried to convince the agitating people to lift the blockade but to no avail.
The demonstrators said they would not relent till arrival of the SSP. They said the Shankargarh police had taken no action despite being warned several times in this connection.
