WHEN THE SSP of a place like this city is on an evening walk right ahead, no one in his wildest dream would ever think of being robbed. But believe it or not, this happened in Alfred Park last evening.
Director of AH Wheeler and Company Somit Banerjee had the blood frozen in his veins for a while when this happened with him last evening. After leaving office, he too had gone for a stroll to this park to keep himself fit. The SSP was walking hardly a hundred yards ahead of him when three men who suddenly appeared before him first tried to knock him down by raining blows on his face and then asked him to hand over the mobile if he cared for his life.
Taken aback by this sudden incident and seeing that the men were armed, Somit decided to part with one of the mobiles (though he was carrying three), gold chain and a wallet.
“It appears that the robbers were not aware of the two other mobiles with me”, he said while talking to HT.
“When I caught up with the SSP and told him what had happened the officer did everything to help me and also ordered combing of the area but in vain.”
This wasn’t all. Friday evening turned out to be similar for two others who were robbed at different places.
Manoj Kumar Srivastav, resident Rajapur had gone to McDonald restaurant with his wife in the evening and was returning home on a two-wheeler, when two miscreants who had chosen the couple heir own ways earlier followed them .
One of them snatched the gold chain of Srivastava’s wife near the Civil Lines church even though the couple were riding the two-wheeler.
An old Bengali woman met the same fate near the labour crossing in Allahapur last evening. Miscreants snatched her gold chain and disappeared while she was walking towards her house.
No arrests were made in any of thees three cases even though the cops tried their best.
