The entire city faces power cuts for almost the entire night making the late night study an ordeal for students. Those who prefer to study early in the morning are also facing problems following their schedule. Devoid of sound sleep due to night rostering, students are not able to concentrate on their studies.
Power supply to the entire city is snapped at 1 am and is restored at 7.30 in the morning. However, in some parts of the city, this period of rostering stretches up to 9 am.
Keeping in view the board examinations, the rostering schedule of the city should have been adjusted taking into consideration the interests of thousands of students appearing for the board examinations. But it seems neither KESCo nor the State Government are concerned about rescheduling the rostering schedule of the city.
Abhay Srivastav, appearing for Class XII board examination, rued, “Power cut in the night leaves us with no option but to use candles and lanterns for late night study. Studying in candlelight is not an easy job, as it is a big strain on the eyes and as a result, concentrating becomes a Herculean task”, added Srivastav.
Sanjay Gautam, appearing for his Class X board examination lamented, “Due to the odd hours of rostering, both late night and early morning study has become a tedious task.” The Government must think about the problems being faced by students, especially during the period of board examination, Gautam said.
Similar views on night rostering where expressed by teachers. Pravesh Katiyar, a Physics teacher in Kailash Saraswati Inter College, also expressed concern on night rostering. “At least during the board examination, the State Government and KESCo must take into consideration problems likely to be faced by students due to night rostering,” stated Katiyar. Unfortunately, no step has been taken by the State Government and Kesco to reschedule rostering at least, for a temporary phase, added Katiyar.
However, Kesco officials expressed their helplessness in rescheduling the rostering hours.
Kesco general manager MP Tripathi said, “Rostering is being controlled from the State Capital and KESCo has no role in it.”
Night rostering was being done so as to ensure regular power supply during the course of examination at the examination centers, added Tripathi.
