Rs 1,000 cr relief for tobacco farmers

The package has been sanctioned by the Centre to help tobacco growers hit by cyclone and other natural calamities.

Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh has announced that a Rs 1,000 crore relief package for tobacco farmers has been sanctioned by the Centre for providing help to tobacco growers hit by cyclone and natural calamities.

Addressing a press conference, Ramesh also said that tobacco farmers will be encouraged to go in for alternative crops like Bengal gram and Union Government will provide financial asistance for it.
