The BJP and its ideological parent, the RSS, have set up a new two-way method of communication to iron out any face-offs on some key issues and to ensure they are on the same page on policy matters.
RSS’ second-in-command Suresh Bhaiyaji Joshi, joint general secretary Suresh Soni and BJP’s organisational secretary Ram Lal will be in regular touch with BJP chief Amit Shah and his predecessors Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari as part of this exercise.
The RSS also wants the BJP to strengthen its organisational base in light of the assembly elections later this year.
“All this can be achieved only when there is coordination between the party and the RSS. The government will also need to accommodate concerns of the RSS. The new mechanism seeks to achieve this,” a source said.
The RSS had recently ‘loaned’ its two senior pracharaks – Ram Madhav and Shiv Prakash – to the BJP. The two are tipped to get organisational responsibility when the BJP’s new team of office bearers is announced sometime after August 9. Amit Shah’s appointment as the BJP president will be ratified at the party’s national council meeting on August 9.
Madhav is likely to be appointed national general secretary with the assignment to coordinate between the party and the government, while Shiv Prakash could be inducted as the joint organisational secretary with the charge of northern states.
“At a recent meeting with BJP’s top brass and the Prime Minister, RSS functionaries had given suggestions. They want the government to contain price rise, as it is one of the key issues that led to the fall of the previous Manmohan Singh government,” a BJP leader said.
While the RSS will not interfere with the functioning of the government, it will through BJP chief and his predecessors keep flagging issues it considers important.
