Police termed Rao as a self-styled RTI activist who had personal rivalry with a police inspector.
Besides, he was facing two cases, including the one filed by a constable against him under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), wherein a hearing was scheduled on Monday in a court at Markapur town of Prakasam and another case of cheating.
Police said Rao had been avoiding court proceedings in the atrocity case in which trial was over and a verdict was likely to come within a month.
Preliminary tests suggested that there were no symptoms of any poisonous substance, however, Rao’s blood samples have been sent to forensic science laboratory (FSL) in Hyderabad for detailed analysis, Prakasam superintendent of police K Raghuram Reddy said.
“We are probing both the angles if in reality there was any attempt on Rao’s life as claimed by him and also if he had self-inflicted the syringes into him.”
“We are awaiting the FSL report which is likely to be made available in a couple of days,” the SP explained.
