Sachin to become most capped ODI player

He will surpass former Pakistan captain Akram's record 356-match appearances when India play the third ODI against South Africa.

Master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar is all set to become the most capped ODI player in the world when India play the third one-dayinternational against South Africaon Tuesday.

He will surpass former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram's record 356-match appearances.

Making his ODI debut at the age of 16 against Pakistan at Gujaranwala in Pakistan on December 18, 1989, the Indian maestro had so far scored 13,877 runs, including 38 hundreds and 71 half centuries with an average of 44.19 in the shorter version of the game.

He has so far accumulated more than 24,000-odd runs and 72 hundreds in both forms of the game, besides holding a record 51-man-of-the-match awards in 356 ODIs, way ahead of Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya's 36.

The 1997 Wisden Cricketer of the Year also holds the record for most non-stop ODI appearances (185) between 1989-90 and 1997-98.

After being out of action for nearly six months due to tennis elbow, the Mumbai southpaw made a successful comeback to international cricket during the home series against Sri Lanka. Sachin Tendulkar factfile:
