The fifth hearing of the trial of Saddam Hussein on charges of genocide against the Kurds began on Tuesday, a day after the former ruler charged that Kurdish testimonies against him were dividing Iraq.

Saddam and six co-defendants were in the dock again to face charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, for launching a brutal campaign against the Kurds in the 1980s that killed more than 180,000 people.
