Richard Mullen, 52, was arrested Sunday morning in the infant intensive care unit. Mullen was carrying a bag containing a red balloon and several wrapped condoms, Boston police said.

Mullen pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on USD 1,500 bail at his arraignment on Monday.

Mullen was a volunteer at Children's Hospital for 11 years, the hospital said in a statement yesterday. The hospital said it is not aware of complaints from patients or families regarding Mullen's behaviour.

The hospital terminated Mullen as a volunteer after the December 4 arrest at a shopping mall in New Hampshire.

In a separate case, Mullen pleaded guilty last month to a charge of trespassing at a New Hampshire high school, where he was confronted while walking the halls. Sentencing in that case was delayed so Mullen could undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
