Sarath eighth in Mugello as Mahindra wins Italian championship round

Team Mahindra Racing's Sarath Kumar overcame a difficult start to finish eighth in the first of two races of the CIV Italian racing championship at the Mugello circuit in Italy while the team's second rider Ricardo Moretti took a win from pole position. HT reports.

After qualifying on the eighth row, Kumar slowly picked off the other riders to squeeze into the top ten. Kumar had scored a podium finish in the previous round of the championship in Monza.

Kumar has yet to overcome his problems in qualifying but will be hoping for a better starting position for Sunday's race.

The Chennai-based rider spoke of problems with turning the his 125cc bike into the fast, sweeping corners of the Mugello circuit that has seen average speeds exceed 230kph when Formula One cars have used it for testing.
